The much-anticipated fourth Test of the Border Gavaskar series between India and Australia kicked off on Thursday in Melbourne. Winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first in this Boxing Day Test. The Indian team management made a notable change, dropping Shubman Gill and bringing in all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Team Lineups and Key Changes

India's playing XI features two spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. The inclusion of Sundar strengthens the bowling lineup, while Rohit Sharma has been slotted into the third batting position, replacing Gill. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue to open, with Virat Kohli coming in at number four.

Batting Concerns for India

Team India started the Border Gavaskar series with a dominant performance in the first Test but faltered in the subsequent matches. In the Gabba Test, the team narrowly avoided defeat, thanks to stellar performances by KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, resulting in a hard-fought draw.

However, concerns persist in the batting department. Apart from his century in the series opener, Virat Kohli has struggled to find consistency. Similarly, captain Rohit Sharma has failed to cross double digits in the last two matches. Their form will be crucial in this Test, along with Rishabh Pant's contributions with the bat.

Bowling Challenges

While Bumrah has led the bowling attack commendably, the rest of the bowlers have struggled to make an impact. As the Boxing Day Test unfolds, India will rely heavily on Bumrah's ability to deliver breakthroughs.

Australian Debutant Shines

Australia has also made a significant change to their lineup, with 19-year-old Sam Constas making his debut. He replaced Josh Hazlewood in the squad and has already impressed with the bat. Constas scored a quick 45 runs off 44 balls, including two sixes and five boundaries, helping Australia reach 48/0 in just 10 overs. He is partnered by Usman Khawaja, who is unbeaten on 11.

Series Status

The Border Gavaskar series currently stands at 1-1. India secured a win in the first Test, Australia bounced back in the second, and the third Test ended in a draw. The fourth Test will be a crucial decider in this intense rivalry.
